Hosting Winter Events
It is good to know that life goes on even though toes might be frozen & noses blocked. As an events co-ordinator, your clients depends on you to deliver a successful & memorable event, no matter the time of the year. Whether it’s a social or corporate event, it is important to ensure that the basic factors of an event are covered. I discuss some of these factors below.
Venue
The choice can make or break an event. It is important to consider time of the event when choosing a venue. Winter days are sometimes warm enough to allow for an outdoor high tea, luncheon or product launch. However, winter evenings might necessitate an indoor venue. For intimate & small events, a venue that has fireplaces are ideal, while larger events require venues that have air conditioning &outdoor gas heaters.
Food & Catering
Most caterers, venues & restaurants offer winter menus with soups for starters, warm stews & bistro menus for mains & an array of warm desserts. For canape’s and platters, risotto balls, quiches & croquettes are very good options. Brownies, cake-in-a-mug & warm custards & puddings are great dessert options.
Deco & Ambience
Lighting & deco colours are a great way to add warmth to any winter event. Nature can be your greatest inspiration. The red & orange leaves & warm browns of tree barks can be used through lighting, napkins & overlays. “Winter Wonderland” themes are usually a big success for weddings, where you can use whites & silver. Pinecones can be used as centrepieces, with the option of keeping them brown or spraying them white/silver for a snowy effect. Candles make for great centrepieces for evening events, while adding metallic glitter can brighten up any daytime event.
